District Heating Plant Operator – Falkland Islands

About the role

The District Heating Plant Operator will ensure safe, efficient and reliable operation of the district heating energy centres and distribution network supporting British Forces South Atlantic Islands. You will work on‑site in the Falkland Islands, delivering heating and hot‑water services while contributing to energy‑efficiency initiatives and compliance standards.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor plant equipment including boilers, pumps, pressurisation gear, heat exchangers and water‑treatment systems.
• Use Building Management Systems (BMS), SCADA and remote monitoring platforms to track performance.
• Adjust operating parameters to optimise efficiency, reliability and energy output.
• Ensure heat generation and distribution consistently meet customer demand.
• Conduct routine inspections of plant and equipment.
• Perform first‑line maintenance and support corrective actions.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a plant operator or engineering professional in a similar industrial environment.
• Ability to work independently in a remote, defence‑related setting.
• Strong focus on safety, reliability and regulatory compliance.
• Willingness to live on‑site and adapt to the unique lifestyle of the Falkland Islands.
