Dental Officer – 1-year Fixed-Term in Falkland Islands

About the role

The Falkland Islands Government is seeking a Dental Officer to join its Health & Social Services Department for a one‑year fixed‑term contract. Based at the King Edward Memorial Hospital in Stanley, you will deliver comprehensive dental care to the island community while enjoying a unique, remote working environment.

Key responsibilities

• Examine, diagnose and treat patients, providing a full range of dental services.
• Deliver emergency dental care and routine treatments in three surgery rooms.
• Participate in community programmes such as school screening and domiciliary visits.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of the Oral Health Strategy.
• Assist the Senior Dental Officer with planning and implementing new services, including an orthodontic programme.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) with a minimum of 2 years experience as a general dental practitioner.
• Registration with the UK General Dental Council (or recognised international equivalent) maintained throughout the appointment.
• Experience in a senior NHS or primary‑care community dental role is preferred.
• Willingness to be on‑call during weekends, bank holidays and public holidays.
• Commitment to high‑quality patient care and continuous service improvement.

What we offer

• Fixed‑term contract of 12 months (full‑time, 37.5 hours/week).
