Electrician (Maintenance)

About the role

Join the Electrical Maintenance Team to carry out planned and reactive maintenance on a range of plant and systems, including low‑voltage electrical equipment, catering equipment, hazardous‑area systems and fire alarms.

Key responsibilities

• Perform installation and maintenance of low‑voltage electrical systems, hazardous‑area equipment and fire alarm systems across the MOD estate.
• Execute pre‑planned maintenance tasks, respond to emergency call‑outs and record all work on dockets and labour records.
• Interpret and modify electrical drawings, circuit diagrams and line schematics to ensure accurate documentation.
• Advise management on replacement of ageing equipment to prevent hazards and qualify for entry in the Skilled Persons Register.

Required profile

• Qualified electrician with BS7671 (18th Edition) or equivalent City & Guilds certification.
• Full driving licence and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Good knowledge of H&S legislation, Permit‑to‑Work systems and IOSH managing safely.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.

Required skills

• Electrical installation and maintenance of low‑voltage systems.
• Reading and updating electrical drawings, circuit diagrams and line schematics.
• Testing and inspection of electrical installations (BS 2391 or equivalent).
• Experience with hazardous‑area systems and fire alarm & emergency lighting installations.
